The 163rd commemoration of Bohol Day marks another unforgettable event in the lives of every Boholano as Bohol Day gave tribute to the unsung heroes that became part of the Province’s history.
A Parade of Honors for provincial heroes and fallen soldiers led by the province’s government officials, Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines. With the theme “Celebrating the Heroism of Today’s Boholano”, the commemoration was also highlighted by awarding outstanding true-blooded Boholano and ‘non-Boholanos’ who contributed and continuously shared themselves to Bohol. Vice Governor Dionisio Balite gave his welcome message and congratulated everyone for the event.
This year’s Awardees who received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Boholanos include: Ambassador Fernando Borja, Special Envoy to the People’s Republic of China, for Diplomacy and International Relations, Fr. Arnold Zamora, Singing Priests of Tagbilaran Musical Director, for Music, Atty. Ingemar Macarine, “The Pinoy Aquaman”, for Environment, Miss Carmen Gatal, Retired DILG Regional Director, for Community Service and Mr. John and Mrs. Geesnell Yap, Founders and Owners of Bohol Tropics, for Business. Also given Special Citations for their contribution to Bohol are: Korean Project for International Agriculture Country Director Dr. Jeong Teak Lee and Japan Airport Consultants Project Manager Engr. Tadashi Aoi, for New Bohol Airport Construction and Sustainable Environment Protection Project (NBACSEPP).
Boholanos also witnessed the signing of two Memorandum of Agreements that will benefit the province. First is the MOA that will provide Dental Health Program for all Public Elementary Students of Bohol, between Bohol Province represented by Gov. Edgar M. Chatto and Vice Gov. Dionisio Balite, Department of Education (DepEd) Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos and Tzu Chi Foundation representative Alex Chua. The second MoA is for the Water Supply of Bohol. Signatories includes Gov. Edgar M. Chatto, Vice Gov. Dionisio Balite, League of the Municipalities of the Philippines Bohol headed by Clarin Mayor Allen Rey Piezas and Bohol Municipal Mayors.
Mayor Edgardo M. Chatto, in his message, thank every Boholano and non-Boholanos who are heroes in his or her rights and expressed his appreciation for their good traits. He stressed about Boholano’s resiliency and cooperation in responding through challenging times.
One of Bohol Day Guest Speaker , Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Feli William Fuentebella showed his appreciation for the province’s Bohol Energy Development Advisory Group (BEDAG) and reported that DOE is doing it’s best in bringing back the power that has been affected by the recent Leyte earthquake until July 31. He excitedly announced the upcoming ASEAN Dialogue which will be attended by representatives from 34 Asian countries. The event will be held in Bohol on the second week of August that will showcase the province’s security and resiliency.
Another Guest Speaker, Department of Tourism Undersecretary Alma Rita Jimenez, in her speech, appreciated the “Behold Bohol” Tourism campaign and challenged everyone in sustaining the record-breaking 1 million tourists arrivals in 2016.
Selected Bohol Province teachers’ Kuradang Dance performance capped the celebration.
